The back end of the church. Looking to the heavens above the church. Making our way around the church to the market square. The market square with a fountain in the middle. The building on the right is the town hall. One of the beautiful half-timbered houses on the square. This is the Town Hall (Rathaus). Another view of the fountain. Carolyn and I in front of the town hall. One of the many beautiful buildings of Neustadt. Carolyn in front of an arch leading into the Old Town area. After a train ride from Neustadt to Kaiserslautern we get our first glimpse of the stadium right after we get off the train. The crowd was already very heavy just outside of the train station. Kaiserslautern is an industrial city and not really a big tourist destination. But no one seemed to care much today! We had a soccer game to see! This is the Fan Mile. Spanish football fans as far as the eye can see. Do you see any colors of the opposing team?! Carolyn and I are in that crowd somewhere... Some Spanish fans dress up in their own special outfits. Time to head to the game. This is the Gate to Mount Betzen, where the stadium sits. A couple watches the crowd go by. Unfortunately, Kaiserslautern was the worst as far as organizing the crowds to enter the stadium. And the worst part was the 200+ steps we had to climb in the heat to get to the stadium. (Yes, we counted them!) At last, the stadium. It was brand-spanking new. In fact, all the postcards had a model of this stadium because it wasn't finished yet by the time they needed to go to print. Oh, and we weren't finished climbing stairs yet either.
