That's more like what we would think of buildings from the communist East Germany. Contrast between old and beautifully renovated, and just plain old and ugly. The communists were friendly if nothing else: At the Leipzig main train station (Hbf = Hauptbahnhof). Back in Halle at the Hotel Esprit the next morning. That is Frau Dähne, the hotel's boss. Across the road from the hotel. Also across the road from the hotel. The contrast is everywhere. All in all though, Halle is a very beautiful city that will only become more beautiful as time goes on. The beloved cobblestones and tram tracks that wouldn't let us get any sleep at night. Sandra leaving early to catch a train to meet her husband way in the south of Germany. Hotel Esprit. It was a nice, friendly hotel, albeit, very noisy at night. To the right of the hotel. And to the right of the hotel, showing more contrast between old and new. Carolyn and I had some spare time, so we went back into town. This is a nice little section of Halle. You can see the tower of the city hall in the distance. But what we were really looking for was... The Beatles Museum! Yes, there is a Beatles Museum in Halle way off in eastern Germany. It was closed when we were there, so we didn't get to go in. St. Moritz Church, which was finished in 1546. I took this so I would know the name of the church! Looking at the back of the Market Church from the Hallmarkt (Halle Market). The Göbel Fountain in the middle of the Hallmarkt behind the Market Church. Carolyn and the Göbel fountain. The fountain was built beginning in 1998. The bronze sculptures of the fountain were by a local sculptor, Bernd Göbel. Carolyn and her Deutschland hat. The building below the church was actually built in 1924 to house electric transformers.
