The first five aerial pictures of Boppard on the Rhine are taken from a website called Rheinhessen Luftbild, http://www.rheinhessen-luftbild.de/. I have a few others from this site in this series of photos because they fit in nicely with mine. This aerial view looks right down at the heart of Boppard. I lived in Boppard for 8 weeks studying German way back in the summer of 1985. This is from the other direction showing the geography around Boppard and this section of the Rhine. A closer view of the city of Boppard. St. Severus cathedral marks the skyline of the city's waterfront. This is one of the more popular postcard views of Boppard. Arriving in Boppard, I think we got one of the best hotels in the city, Hotel Bellevue! Check out this view of the Rhine! Looking upriver from our balcony. One of the many cruise ships that dock at Boppard. This is our wonderful room. The worst thing you can say about it is that it's kinda small. Comfy little bed. Looking from the room out onto the balcony. Carolyn takes a walk out to see the view. We shared the balcony with three other rooms, but only Sandra and her husband John were next door when we were visiting. (Note the brick chimney. It'll give you a reference point later.) That's our room. Wait until you see where our room is located on the outside of the hotel! Carolyn takes a little break while I admire the view. This is the part of Boppard's promenade that runs in front of the Hotel Bellevue. Some more of the promenade. It runs for two or three miles along the river. One of the narrow streets of Boppard. I thought the grape vines growing across the street were interesting. Yet another narrow street in Boppard. One of the many half-timbered houses of Boppard. This one is right off of the market place. This is part of the remnants of the original Roman wall that surrounded a fort located at Boppard. The wall was built in the middle of the 4th century and was in place and used for over a thousand years. This shows how the wall was expanded and repaired over the centuries. This shows the base of one of the 28 towers that were erected along the wall. The wall was 2-3 meters thick at various points along its perimeter. A portion of the market place (Marktplatz) and the exterior of the church.
