Great Lakes from Space

"Isn't it COLD in Michigan?!"

Only in the winter.

Summer temperatures regularly get HOT in June, July and August. And HUMID! Those Great Lakes can dump a lot of moisture in the air. But that makes going to the hundreds of miles of sandy beaches and shoreline all the better! But summers are not quite as hot as those in my current state of residence, Maryland.

But the weather is part of what makes Michigan so great: If you don't like it, wait 10 minutes and it will change!

I grew up in a village in southwestern Michigan called Saranac. Seems it was named after Saranac in New York. It's just a small town with lots of farming. Had less than 1500 people when I was growing up. I knew most of them and they knew me. I loved growing up out in the middle of nowhere. Lived on a dirt road all my life. Earned money baling hay, picking rocks, and pitching cow manure. Good living.

And I love winter. Sledding, snowmobiling, both cross-country and downhill skiing, and when I was really young, building tunnels in the snow drifts. Those were the days.

Presque Isle River

The picture to the right is of the Presque Isle River in the Porcupine Mountain Wilderness, Upper Peninsula, Michigan. I've never been there. I just like the picture.

Here are some links to various Michigan sites. Hope you find some of them interesting and useful.

Below is a map of the great state of Michigan, my boyhood home. As you can see, Saranac, where I grew up, and Ann Arbor, where I attended university, both figure prominently.
